Companies and their stakeholders are increasingly aware of the need to behave responsibly and the benefits associated with doing so. In 2019, the Juratoys Group sought to join the “Club des PME engagées pour la planète” (Club of SMEs committed to the planet). WWF France’s club "Entreprendre pour la planète" (Doing Business for the Planet) is a network of partner companies united by the same desire to contribute to preserving the environment.
"A company's impact on the society in which it operates and on the environment has become a critical component in measuring its overall performance and its ability to continue to operate effectively. All business activities depend at one time or another on the state of the planet's ecosystems".

In order to improve our contribution to the protection of the environment and to defend a nature that is now threatened, we have decided to join forces with one of the key environmental players: WWF to create sustainable toys with one of our brands : JANOD.
A sustainable collection was launched in 2021
Janod is in a process of continuous improvement by reducing the impact of its activities on the environment.
The aim of this collaborative project is to educate children (and their parents) on the importance of environmental protection by transmitting key messages regarding the preservation of biodiversity in a fun and entertaining way.
Today’s children will be the major environmental protection players in a few year’s time; that is why it is so crucial to pass on our love of nature and the need for its protection right now.
A 36-product range has been developed with responsibly-sourced materials (FSC™ wood, FSC™ or recycled cardboard, organic cotton, water-based paint etc.) for children aged 0-7 years.
(FSC™= Forest Stewardship Council: which means that the wood used comes from responsibly managed forests).
Our designers have also optimized the shapes to minimize the loss of raw materials.
The Juratoys Group will donate a percentage of the sales from every WWF product sold to support the actions of this NGO.

As a result, it guarantees the legality of the resource’s exploitation and the absence of any links to deforestation, in addition to biodiversity conservation.
*Forest Stewardship Council™
Responsible forest management is a concrete response to environmental concerns and one of the solutions for protecting and maintaining the world's forests. That is the reason why the FSC label was created. Janod, which produces wooden toys has a crucial role to preserve it.
We need it to breathe! Forest ecosystems are home to 80% of the Earth's biodiversity and perform functions that are crucial for the survival of our planet, and in turn, humans.
Almost 1 in 6 people worldwide depend directly or indirectly on the forests for their livelihood. However, forest environments are still being subjected to a great amount of pressure.
The net loss of natural forests amounted to roughly 6.5 million hectares a year between the years 2010 and 2015, or 17 football pitches per minute (source FAO). Furthermore, deforestation is responsible for approximately 15% of CO₂ emissions and therefore, also plays a role in global warming.
In 2022, FSC™-certified wood accounts for 31% of all JANOD wood used in our wood and cardboard collections. By 2025, we aim to increase the amount of FSC™ wood used in our toys to 70%.
All KALOO and LILLIPUTIENS packaging is made from FSC™ materials.
More about FSC™The future belongs to our children and in order to build a more virtuous world, KALOO has designed soft and protective cuddly toys in ORGANIC cotton.
Cotton is a very water-intensive crop, and the method used to grow organic cotton allows this consumption to be greatly reduced and is part of an environmentally-friendly production method :
The organic cotton chosen for the PETIT PAS range meets the highest and most comprehensive standard for the textile industry, from planting to dyeing.
Much more than a cuddly toy, the Kaloo Petits Pas collection has been designed to limit the number of materials used and help protect our planet. This collection is made from natural and organic materials and are suitable for small, delicate skin.
For the 2023 collection, we propose a swaddle in organic cotton and a cuddly toy in a mixed microvelour & organic cotton material. Our teams work to improve from year to year.
Lilliputiens has also started using organic cotton in its a range of early years products. It includes cuddly toys, musical toys, play mats...
Since 2020, all the stuffing used in the KALOO and LILLIPUTIENS collections is made from 100% polyester fibres obtained from recycled plastic bottles. The stuffing is GRS-compliant (Global Recycled Standard).
This international standard was developed by "Control Union Certifications" in 2008 and certifies not only the recycled content of a product but also the compliance with responsible environmental, social and chemical criteria throughout the value chain (spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing and sewing) in more than 50 countries.
This is part of our commitment with our suppliers to develop more environmentally friendly toys, whilst reducing our carbon footprint.
We make our packaging as compact as possible and amend the existing ones as we go. Since January 2020, JANOD gradually and optimally replace all the plastic materials in our packaging with new alternatives, such as biodegradable or recycled materials.
For examples, we eliminated the use of "bubble wrap", polyester and doufline (protective foam film) present in its packaging and favor tissue paper and kraft paper, which are more ecological and less energy-consuming. .
Most plastics are derived from petrochemicals (chemicals derived from petroleum) and therefore, have an impact on our environment. Furthermore, the plastic found in nature - and most especially the oceans - is a major source of pollution. This has prompted us to do what we can to limit these impacts.
Since January 2020, we have removed all the plastic elements found in our packaging of 127 JANOD items, i.e. around 950 000 pieces sold per year.
For all the pieces sold of these 127 items, that's 5.5 tonnes of plastic less per year!
Since January 2021, all plastic (PET bags used as inner and outer protective packaging) have been removed from all JANOD puzzle boxes.
Before, you found in your packages these small anti-humidity or desiccant silica bags, a chemical compound naturally present in the environment and in many minerals but dangerous when it becomes dust and with a plastic packaging. For our KALOO and JANOD brands, we have changed this silica bag to clay-based bags with ecological packaging.
By changing these little bags, we saved 5.3 tonnes of plastic per year.
Since 2022, Janod proposed on Janod.com certain spare parts, the most requested by customer service (around fifty references). These are generally worn or lost parts. Presently, requests are handled on a case-by-case basis by our customer service. This approach is part of our desire to extend the use of Janod games and toys. At the end of 2022, 322 spare parts were sold via our website.
In our French logistics warehouse, which receives and prepares orders, the pallets full of toys are unpacked and the packages are sent to our network of carriers. Initially made of wood, we have been using from May 2022 recycled plastic pallets that are very resistant and reusable "for life". We save cost, weight and raw materials.
In 2020, the JURATOYS Group carried out its first carbon assessment to measure the impact of its activities and implement a concrete action plan. This diagnostic tool designed by the Ecological Transition Agency - ADEME makes it possible to understand and analyze its main greenhouse gas emissions.
For the year 2019, across our entire value chain, for JANOD and KALOO brands, we generated 6,600 tonnes of CO2e.
Only companies with more than 500 employees are currently required to measure their carbon footprint (scopes 1 and 2) every 4 years. The scope considered for the calculation is of the utmost importance, as it may or may not take into account significant sources of emissions. At Juratoys, we chose to include scopes 1, 2 and 3 in order to obtain a fuller picture of our actual impact.
A 2nd carbon assessment is being carried out on our 3 brands (JANOD, KALOO and LILLIPUTIENS) to measure our progress and improve continuously from year to year.
Everyone has a role to play in a company's low-carbon approach, and will do so via their job, values and daily actions. This is why Juratoys has proposed that each willing employee should calculate their personal carbon footprint in 2021.
- favouring recycled materials, especially for textiles
- avoiding waste by reducing the size of our packaging ;
- reducing the amount of plastic used in our packaging ;
- favouring eco-friendly modes of transport...
In order to go one step further and reduce its environmental impact, the Juratoys Group is carrying out its first life cycle analyses on products from its 3 brands: JANOD, KALOO and LILLIPUTIENS.
A life cycle assessment is an evaluation method used to identify and quantify the environmental impacts throughout the life of a product, from raw material extraction to store delivery, and thus identify the most relevant levers to reduce the JURATOYS group’s impacts on the ecosystem.
For all imports, Juratoys teams are working on how to optimize transport by mutualising supplier orders before departure, but also by selecting the least impacting transport. For this, JURATOYS transports its products to France first by boat then by barge from Fos-sur-Mer (60%) and finally by road (40%).
“We don't inherit the land from our parents, we borrow it from our children. " Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Planting trees means acting to safeguard our forests but also discovering their resources. It is also an opportunity for children to develop their potential as eco-citizens and their solidarity. This is done in solidarity with young people from Southern countries who are participating in a similar development. It aims to inspire adults to want to do the same !
In association with Kinomé, its Forest & Life program and the ONF (Office National des Forêts), JANOD has been working for reforestation since 2019 by financing and helping to plant trees with local Jura schools and employees.
Each year, 4,500 trees are planted in total, including 1,500 in France, and for one tree planted in the northern hemisphere, two are planted in the southern hemisphere (i.e. 3,000).
With global warming, our French Northern and Eastern forests are suffering from bark beetle damage. This family of 2 to 7 millimeter insects, naturally present in our ecosystem, is disturbed by climatic conditions which have accelerated the proliferation of parasites, insects and fungi. This causes the dieback of trees and changes the appearance of forests where the needles turn from green to brown and finally their total disappearance. Children, parents, colleagues, communities... everybody is concerned to preserve the forest.
Is the year the “La forêt des enfants” (The Children’s Forest) was launched.
The number of trees planted by children.
The number of children involved in the programme.
Why is JANOD commited to young people and the forest ?
To prepare tomorrow’s world for our children, by making a concrete contribution to environmental protection and offsetting our impact on the environment (because most of our products are made of wood).
To give meaning: Group employees accompanied the children from volunteer classes to replant trees.
To make our audiences aware of the urgent need to act: Parents, Grandparents and Children alike.
