Grow vegetables from your leftovers

Some of the vegetables we eat are able to grow new shoots with just a little water and a bit of sunshine!

The perfect opportunity to “grow” your own food as a family and bring to “light” the importance of healthy and sustainable food to the younger generation. And the best part, you don’t need to have a green thumb or a lot of space to do it.

Encourage your lettuces and leeks to continue growing

Leave a few centimetres above the core or stalk when you use these vegetables. Then, put the vegetable in a container with a little water so that only the lower part is immersed. Place the container in a bright spot. Change the water every 1-2 days to prevent it from becoming cloudy. Now sit back and watch. After a few days, new leaves will start to appear. Wait a little bit longer. The vegetable can be eaten when it is large enough or even transplanted to the ground, where it will be able to grow even more.

Some vegetables are easier to grow than others, such as lettuces, leeks, fennel, celery, spring onions and lemongrass.
